And don't forget the whole plot point about Arven's parent, a renowned researcher, going more or less missing in the depth of the crater, only to find out that they've been dead for a while. And before the events of the game, Arven even tried to venture to the crater by himself to find out what happened to his parent, only to have his Pokémon suffer some mysterious injury.
