Maybe but at least having a real special Stat with Thunder Punch and Ice Punch you would have better coverage options and Hitmonchan could have actual use in the lower tiers.

While we at it let's give some love to Hitmonlee as well.

I liked the type coverage it gave Hitmonchan in game but yea really stupid. Infact alot of things about the old physical/special system make some pokemon stat/type/move designs really questionable.

Yep. Plus it doesn't have any fighting moves except Counter so you imagine the idea was for him to use the Elemental Punches which only him had access to all of em. But his Special is pathetic.

Thunder Punch is a 3HKO on Gyarados, which 2HKOs back with Hydro Pump.
RB Lance Dragonite is a free win since it will just spam Agility and Barrier. Yellow Dragonite is a 3HKO, but also 3HKOs back. Getting burned, paralyzed or frozen all immediately lose you the battle though(without healing items, at least).

NTA but the Special stat has 2x value in gen 1 because it covers both offense and defense. Adding 75 base Special greatly improves both offense and defense.

You dont have to fix stats you just have to fix the shitty type-stat distribution which was fixed with the physical/special split.
