They all look insanely generic for being "cool" monsters

Even the gen 1 starters had more variety than this, and people love to falsely generalize them as just "animal but it epic". Like, Blastoise has fucking cannons, Venusaur is a hybrid prehistoric flower dinosaur, and Charizard is...well its just a dragon i guess

I'm not going to act like I can do better, but they just seem too plain, symmetrical and sterile. There's no interesting shapes to them for their simplicity.

Not OP, but I've seen the Fakemon starters and they seem to have a Tokusatsu theme.
Grass starter is a beetle with a mecha theme.
Fire starter is a dog with a sentai superhero theme.
And the Water starter is a sea turtle with a kaiju theme (it has Gamera vibes into it). Plus, the final form seems to have jet attributes as well.
