I like keeping my physical cartridges. It's a nice trip down memory lane when I boot up Yellow and I see that I was trying to copy Ash's team as a kid. Or when I boot up Gold and I was really obsessed with the name "Rocky" and named all my video game characters that.

I know they're not gonna last forever. My Crystal version (which was my favorite I would've loved to have booted that up and see what I was doing as a kid) died relatively quickly. But the Gen1 ones are lasting a really long time and I would actually get a bit sad if I sold them. They might be some of the oldest games I have in my collection.

It's not optimal but you can do the swap while providing the same voltage from an external source. Or just backup the save, do the swap, then rewrite the save.
