Ultimately Pokemon battle system was designed primarily with single-player in mind and there Crits and other random effects have very important role - they create diversed situations. Random crit from enemy can throw a curveball against unprepared player, random freeze from your Pokemon can turn hopeless situation into actual chance for win etc.
You want to make competitive more fair? Change the damn game, lol.
