>>54383421>I'm a Sinnoh boy at heart, grew to love Johto, but deep-down, I know Gen 3 is the best. You’re literally me. Gen 4 was my first generation, so I love DPP and HGSS (also came to love GSC) but no matter how much I love gen 2/4 for being more in-line with my preferred playstyle, I can’t help but acknowledge that gen 3 is the best all around. It’s basically flawless.
>What do you like about Gen 3?Pretty much everything. The region design is top notch, both in terms of environments and layout. People complain about too much water but the way the water routes are handled is perfect, they’re there if you want extensive sea-faring exploration but can be mostly skipped over if you aren’t in the mood for that sorta thing. The Pokémon are genuinely the best designed IMO, most of my favourites are from Hoenn. Between the starters, Breloom, Slaking, Exploud, Aggron, Camerupt, Sharpedo, Altaria, Cacturne, both fossils, etc, I never have a hard time putting together a team of mons I like. While all Pokémon games can be cheesed, I find myself more challenged by RSE than any other game in the series. It’s not just that the battles are reasonably hard, but the lack of casualization present makes the whole moment-to-moment experience feel like it takes more “application” if you get what I mean. Like, more than any other game in the series I feel like it expects a fair bit of mastery out of the player, in all aspects, from exploration, to resource management, to knowledge of mechanics, and, of course, battling.
Finally, I love the music. Probably not quite as much as sinnoh’s but just about every track ranges from good to breathtakingly great.
