So, what exactly did they mean by "It all comes together!" in the announcement trailer? And no, Rainbow Rocket doesn't count because that's USUM and not SM.

They were the lat games with the National Dex. The last games released on a handheld. The last games to incorporate the previous gens battle gimmick while also having it's own. The Battle Tree was supposed to be the series swan song by letting yo ubattle previous gen champs, like Red and Blue.

OP here, I didn't mean it as a way to shit on SM (in fact, they're my second favorite games in the franchise). But the "It all comes together" has always bothered me, because it's not like the game does a lot to "bring things together"?
Like, there's references to previous gens, yes, but every game had done that since Gen 2.

Yeah, that's probably it. Disappointing, I remember the announcement trailer bringing me back into Pokémon after I dropped the series in Gen 4. It truly felt like they were heading somewhere for a second... I like the story of SM still, but it definitely was marketed to be way more grandiose than it ended up being.
