>>54429452Don't feel too bad, it took me up until X after thousands of hours of combined playtime across generations to get my first encounter and it promptly used Self Destruct after I threw like two balls at it. I got a shiny Houndour a couple hours later but still. Both full odds.
If you actually want to shiny hunt just get LGPE, PLA, or SV as they make it both easy and fun. LGPE and SV will require you to deal with Pokemon Home to get what you're missing but it's not too bad and you can upsell a paradox into a legendary if you're patient enough.
All three games make it obscenely easy to get a Shiny Charm and in all three cases you can also see shinies on the overworld with PLA even having a custom sound for it when it happens so you can't even miss it. SV will prevent them from despawning to a degree but you have to know what you're looking for which makes things like Maushold or Charcadet absolute nightmares. LGPE has an aura around the Pokemon so it's harder to miss and obviously it's a different color, but if you chain that Pokemon then only that Pokemon will spawn and raises the chance of it appearing which makes it even easier to farm.
Ever since I started playing those three I've gotten about half a box's worth in LGPE, two or three boxes in PLA, and I'm nearing three in SV with half of my first box in SV all being full odds shinies.
