I mean, in the original JP script they mention an entire herd of Lati@s that just fuck around elsewhere on the planet, with only two at a time serving as guardians because the humans helped them out in the past. It’s associated with poke-venice because it’s literally named after the Latin language. Given what Sugi has mentioned regarding repurposing in-progress designs for movies (ex. Zorua and Zoroark), they probably came up with all of the lore and the names precisely because of the movie’s setting when reworking the duo away from the Latiken design.
