It's one of the best parts of the franchise, it actually you know feels like an adventure?

Not a vacation or a walk to your grandma's house.

When I was little I used to take graph paper and pokemon cards and do makeshift dnd mystery dungeon maps and stories. I was unbelievably excited for Red Rescue Team, preordered it and kept toys R Us receipt in my piggy bank. Mom took my and my Blue GBA SP to Pizza Hut that evening cause I did my schools reading book free pizza coupon thing and then we bought the game after. I desperately wanted Squirtle/Charmander like the show. But I kept getting Mudkip in the quiz. My OG mystery dungeon team is Mudkip/Charmander and Mystery Dungeon will always be them for me

Yes, they still could if they wanted to.
Just make it a completely original pmd story instead of adapting one of the games.

Seeing a human trying to learn how to use their new body as they journey around with episodes where anything could happen instead of the formulaic
>go to gym
>go to league tournament
>leave region
Just the MC and their partner traveling the world as mercenaries trying to discover why they came here, how to get home, etc.

No cringe modern day isekai tropes though like OP main character.
