>>54443807-No difficulty setting, earlygame and lategame are way too high. You could argue this makes sense as a sequel, but it could just as easily also be someone's first Pokemon game. It's called Pokemon Gold and Silver, not Pokemon 2.
-New Pokemon are too rare; not everyone has the time to wake up at 4:00 on a Wednesday with the secret phone number and a specific item in order to catch Buttfuckulis the mono-Normal type in a single hidden cave. Fuck off.
-Outdated game design. Incredibly pixelated artwork, chirpy music and sfx, no voice acting, no pronoun settings, can't even play as a girl in the original Gold/Silver. There is literally no defense for this
-No central story. "B-but Gen 1!" Gen 1 sucks too, that doesn't make it okay here.
-Chinatown region. The first region was already "muh Japan," the second region is still just more of "muh Japan." Literally every single location is just Chinatown, and every single character design is just another white person with stupidly-colored hair. In fairness this is an issue with all of the older Pokemon titles though
-Held items don't add anything, but make the gameplay more tedious to play optimally. Switching around the Amulet Coin between my Pokemon each time I change my lead is just tedious; they could have just doubled the default money yield and skipped this mechanic entirely for a more streamlined experience.
-Breeding doesn't add anything, but make the gameplay more tedious. Just make every Pokemon catchable, every move learnable, and every stat and palette customizable for a more streamlined version of the exact same experience.
-Too many dungeons, just wastes your fucking time with repels and Zubats. Like everything else, the experience could have been streamlined if there just wasn't as much tedium involved in getting your item or legendary.
TLDR: Gen 2 focuses on having as many timesinks and convoluted mechanics as possible, but doesn't understand that sometimes less is more.
