Yes, if you compare Bored and Shilled sales to New Horizons, yes, it donesn't look good.
But he's also ignoring Pokemon's sheer, unadulterated, UNCONTESTED consistency. You can come out with any piece of shit and it will still sell a fuckton.
Plus Pokemon makes most of its money through the merchandise in the first place.
New Horizons may have sold twice as much as SwSh, but if you think a new Animal Crossing will reach 40 million sales ever again, you're out of your mind.
The true test of power is if future games are able to retain its success. Pokemon isn't competing with the Nintendo games because in the end, that money is circling back to Nintendo. Hell, it's not even competing with other (J)RPGs because they all pale in comparison to Pokemon. Even Dragon "I take the day off from my salaryman job" Quest can't match Pokemon.
The only Nintendo Ip that's every been shown to "compete" with Pokemon is Mario.
