I’m pretty certain at this point the only reason they didn’t make it a regional form is because they don’t want to acknowledge Kitakami is its own region

It's irrelevant. They wanted to make a Japanese tea reference. Thus sinistea/polteageist weren't considered, due to them being western-themed. Fuck, rhey could have made convergents specifically as they'd wanted to add polchageist/sinischa and felt they had to add more lines to fully cement the reference.

independent from potential lore reasons, convergent evolutions are lower effort from a developer POV because you aren't forced to include every other regional variant every time you include that pokemon in the roster of a game

ex. games that allow you to catch meowth now force the developers to include its alolan and galarian variants, but wiglett and diglett can be included/excluded completely independently of one another because they're considered separate evolutionary lines

And what is the difference between both tea lines, the are a shapeless blob with a swirl first, then a blob with a humanoid portion. It looks exactly the same in both lines except for the color, in fact it changes even less than those regional variants.
Unless you are arguing the fact one possesses tea on a pot then on a cup while the other goes from a cup to a pot is actually determinant for it to be a different species

You're both kinda wrong. Convergent evolution irl is a broad term that's applied to literally all kinds. Carcinization only applies to crustaceans, all of which are (relatively speaking) closely related. However, it also applies to Sharks and Dolphins or Hummingbirds and Hummingbird Hawk Moths, who's closest living relative was probably some misshapen blob that crawled out of the primordial ooze and happened to start developing complex structures.

They literally do though. the mushrooms use their mycelium to wrap their prey up and incapacitate them by sucking out their nutrients, similar to how the jellyfish originals wrap their prey up and poison them to incapacitate them instead. Wiglett is a bit more dubious, but it's physical similarities are explained. The slender body and large nose are adapted to sniffing out predators from long distances and retreating as fast as possible, which makes sense when you realize the apex aquatic predators in Paldea are speedsters like Barraskewda and Veluza. In terms of a similar niche, it could just be doing for shorelines what Dugtrio does for above-ground dirt. Aerate the soil and provide nutrients by way of waste products.

What anon probably meant is this way they don't have to name the region kitakami is in, while getting away with having is be a single place and not a whole region. It's like if the isle of armour was instead called the armoria region but it's really small and doesn't have it's own starter pokemon, towns, has paldean pokemon, etc
