you need to understand that yugioh the series was successful because it was written as its own show it wasn't meant to be a commercial for the cringe tcg with its cringe ruling and cringe meta

That was the original manga.
DM was made specifically to sell the card game and not only added filler arcs(all focusing on the game) but even changed a key arc in the manga to focus more on the card game.
