Retconned since Soak got added. Pikachu tricked Hapu's mudsdale to drowning itself in seawater (made sense in context) during his trial battle, which imitated the effects of Soak and turned Mudsdale Water type. The inference is ANY sudden deluge of water would be able to do similar so that's how Pika won that one.

Part of why I buy the theory that Ogerpon was also dead and was revived by Kieran's desires when he went exploring the mountain due to the nearby Tera Crystals
