He explained it, he said Pokemon DLC is touched once the day it drops then is never thought about again. A third revision overhauls the entire game making the replays for speedrunning it that much sweeter. Diamond and Pearl are shit fucking games and Platinum is great. If Platinum's core additions were DLC, we'd have shit games + the distortion world and Frontier. The former is a one of set piece and the latter 95% of the fan base won't engage with.

The mons would be in the DLC area which means he as a speedrunner wouldn't give a fuck about them. Sword and Shield speedrunners don't even bother getting the exp.charm from the DLC and that takes 10 minutes.

It amounts to paying more for a worse experience. Yes a third version would cost more, but if you sold the prior one to get it then not really.

I can't possibly tell you why someone else thinks what they think, but here are my own thoughts.

Gens 1-3
>Has a 3rd version that has more / better content
>Gen 1 is a slight exception to this due to how different Yellow was.

Gen 4 to 8
>Stops releasing a 3rd game because they realized that people were waiting
>Instead release only 2 games and later 2 more games that are different enough
>Now people buy 4 games instead of waiting for 1

Gen 9
>Realized that they can just release multiple DLCs to keep getting money instead of spending the effort on making another gen.

GameFreak, TPC and Nintendo are doing what is best for business as multi-billion dollar companies do. We either buy or we don't. I personally have a bigger problem with stuff like Pokemon Box, Bank and Home. Making extra programs for us to transfer pokemon through instead of making direct transfer between games easy is kind of scummy. Ultimately though, nobody can force you to buy these things. Either you like the franchise enough to support it or you don't. Anyone who is on this board has cared about Pokemon at one point or another. We all should think about all the time we waste bitching about it on a forum where our input on the topic doesn't matter. Enjoy your life and if you don't want to buy things anymore, don't. If you still like it enough to spend your money, you do you.

You're not wrong. And you're hooked as a life long long customer. Not that there is anything wrong with that. If you're having fun with the franchise and it is worth it to you to keep spending your money, by all means. I don't deal with Steam-slop weekly games, but also choosing to continue with a series can be just as costly if not more so if you decide to consume as much as you can of that product. Selectively buying instead of blindly buying everything is the way to go. What gets me over buying from a series is buying the one game that I can play over and over for a decade or more. Personally, those are games that have large modding communities or games which i can mod myself.
