Gen V gave us great characters like Alder, N and Ghetsis, cool lore, the plot had actual moral ambiguity, plenty of cool new pokemons, beautiful views, an amazing OST, great QoL changes like reusable TMs, scaled EXP, introduced the idea of making the main series games more animated, dynamic and visually expressive and both BW and BW2 had great post-games.

Gen V had a ton of japanese themed designs (Darmanitan, Thundurus, etc) despite not being obviously set in Japan. It's still a blatant JP game.
