It was even better back when Sand Veil and 3 Passers were still allowed.
This metagame has the most options for players to run viably of any OU, including the most distinct strategies, making for a very deep and complex playing field that forces the very best out of you---highly challenging.
On the other hand, it is a very bulky metagame where offense can struggle to shine through to the extent that defense does; yet at the same time, the particular makeup of it makes hard stall of the sort you'd see in later gens arguably unviable.
There's a lot for everyone to appreciate, but at the same time, it's not going to be a zoomer's dream come true. It takes a lot of maturation to fully appreciate.
