I just don't get why they let you ride around during the region travel challenge or whatever it was called and didn't just have Keiran accompany you like your friends in Area Zero? Well, I think it makes sense. Kieran is pretty autist about Ogerpon, so if he her sister and the new kid they saw her his response would be too unpredictable. Some of the options I can think of are:
>He'd get all jealous because he was the only one to miss it.
>He'd go through dangerous places everyday to see if he finally sees her. Since he knows it really exists, he won't cease and end mindbroken as time passes and Ogerpon refuses to appear.
>He'd go telling everyone in the village about it, claiming it's true and saying the true story about what happened.
>If the family decides it's best to not support his claims, he'd end up as the crazy kid that got too obsessed with the ogre and tarnish the family's reputation.

Perhaps it'd end up good, but Carmine thought there were too many risks involved and did the "I'll decide for you because I know what's best for you".

Kieran being a rival as a result of him seething at a result of you being better than him and getting the results he wanted granted with "help" from his own sister and grandpa is something I consider all around amusing. My only hope is come Indigo Disk he has a full blown team of maxed out lvl 100 pokemon due to the pure level of seethe he accumulated as a result of this.

What I wanna know is, would it be more of a dick move to sweep him with the Ogrepon he wanted all this time, the loyal three he helped release and is now loyal to me, or just use those four all at once to mock him?

Ehhh, it's hard to say if it's all him. A decent portion of his popularity comes from how ridiculously ntr-coded his whole storyline is and people finding that hilarious.
That said, it is an interesting change of pace ina Pokemon game to have a rival character, or character at all really, who specifically hates your guts. Not even most villainous team leaders get this invested, they're usually either begrudgingly impressed by the player or dislike them for getting in the way. Kieran wants our head on a spike because of what we specifically did to him, as he sees it anyway. It's novel, and people like new things.

Maybe, but I kind of like that it's showing up here in DLC because that means it gets to be the central focus. If it was part of a mainline game, the gym challenge or the evil team or legendary plot would take precedence and the rival's storyline would probably lose a lot of steam because it would take a backseat. Here it's front and center and will probably carry over into the bulk of TID too.

Oak's spiel at the end honestly made little sense. The only hints of being a neglectful or harsh trainer before that point was at the literal start of the game where he says "I chose the wrong Pokemon!" after losing, which struck me more as a kid whining after being set back. After that he doesn't even hint at it he was also not very mean in general, but kantofags don't want to hear that. I was more so just wondering what the fuck Oak was even talking about when that moment came up.

It's far more interesting and compelling to have a character take losing with the kind of obsessive resolution he displays. Since gen 6 rivals have had a dopey disposition, they're barely characters and they don't care that they lose so why should the player care? But Kieran really does care and goes from barely able to hide it to openly frustrated over his own weakness. And we still haven't seen the end of his story.

That's because you can access the DLC basically instantly from a new save file. The random nobodies are there because if you decide to go to Kitakami before finishing the main game, it wouldn't make sense to bring the actual important characters along, since their storylines wouldn't be complete yet.
Plus putting the old characters on the backburner for a second makes it easier to introduce and give focus to the new characters, mostly Kieran and Carmine.

Yeah, there's a bit of scaling. I haven't looked at the wild encounters though, just the trainers. Kieran's Pokemon for example are only in the mid to high 30's in his final battle if you play the DLC before finishing the three main stories in the base game, and also have weaker moves and no items.

That's pretty cool. I'm still stomping the competition flat with the my Mewtwo, but it's nice that they made the effort. I really like the overworld for the DLC too, it's got a more natural feel than Paldea and they did a far better job with the timeless woods than the tagtree thicket in terms of making a forest. The crystal pond on top of the mountain and the hidden cavern of Carbink is great too.
