I think its been a while since pokemon are a bit overdesigned, way too much colors patterns shapes inside the same design, we are just barely one step above becoming digimon.
Good thing about pokemon is that they were simple designs

Tbf it was inevitable as designs are no longer limited to a Gameboy screen + need to be quirkier to take advantage of improved technology.
I agree that post-Gameboy era is bootleg digimon now
