Tbf Rose's issue is that he clearly wanted the glory of being the man to permanently change the world for the better that he was willing to risk everyone's safety even though the "threat" was far enough in the future. It wasn't about practicality it was about satiating his need to be important.

But even then, if he got everything he wanted the moment he demanded it, what would that look like? If Leon, the Pokémon League, everyone in the Galar region, nay... the entire world had capitulated to him; if everyone had said, "okay, Rose, we are listening, we are dropping absolutely everything right this second to solve this problem. We are at your beck and call, day and night," what would that look like?

Was Eternatus supposed to stop the energy crisis, but it got out of control? Was Leon supposed to control it and then they could use it as an energy source? Was Eterninus supposed to be the consequence of not stopping the Darkest Day but Rose fucked up and unleashed the very thing he was trying to stop?

I think the intention was an altruistic but misguided villain but as it appears in the game Rose just fucks everything up himself for no reason.

A recurring problem with Pokémon villains since Team Rocket is that there is usually the kernel of intrigue that either gets simplified into 'they were actually just evil, lol' (Ghetsis and arguably Cyrus), or simplified their concept to the point that it becomes nonsensical and counter-intuitive to their own alleged goals (Maxie, Archive, Rose and arguably Lysandre).

At least Ghetsis had N who actually believed in Plasma's proclaimed goals to balance him out. Lusamine was crazy, but at least there was a little depth and nuance to it. Shame that got skipped in USUM to cram in REMEMBER TEAM ROCKET?!

It seems to have gotten to the point that in SV we forego an outright villain entirely, unless you want to count the territorial Koraidon/Miraidon that killed the original professor, but that is not a villain so much as an animal out of its element acting on instinct, at least the way it was presented in game.

They can be. Or they can be more nuanced and sympathetic.

The key is to commit to one and maintain that tone, or set up a transition from one to the other in your narrative, rather than indecisively wavering between the two in the hopes that someone believes your characters had more to them while still serving the role of generic evil badman.

To be fair, it's not like Ghetsis had any better options when he went off on the player. His plan was already in ruins, the best he could reasonably hope to do is stomp you and your new dragon with brute force like he planned to do to N after everyone released their Pokémon. If there was anyone capable of it, it was him.

It's very easy, Rose doesn't care about anything but glory. His intentions were never about stopping the energy crisis or helping people, all he wanted was to be the guy who saved Galar. Galar wasn't in any actual problem to begin with, that's the point, 1000 years is there to show you that Rose isn't doing this out of any altruistic reason, all he wants is to be known as the savior. His type is very common among Tech CEOs, like Elon Musk.

He counted on Leon succeeding. The tournament was easily the biggest event, so having his plan occur at that time meant the most number of eyes would be on him. His PR was good enough that no one would question him if he succeeded.

The issue is just people feeling his unreasonableness isn't reasonable, which is dumb and makes no sense.
As i said here though >>54508297 his reason is not complicated. Dynamax energy doesn't just "spawn" all over the region in one instant on Eternatus summon. It has to fall from the sky over the course of years.
From his perspective, since everything runs on the energy and he wants to usher in a future that would carry the region in terms of tech, it may never work out if it isn't done sooner rather than later.
Not hard to get. The problem with Rose isn't even his motive. Its just the fact it all happens abruptly at the last second in a contrived way rather than being built up over time, and then quickly gets brushed over after it happens.
Made the whole thing feel like an obligation.

Bad argument. The Pokeworld is full of electric-conducting critters, some of which can unlease 10 million volts. The problem with transition is that, we rely so much of fossil fuels, it will take some time to wean off it. In the meantime do you choose the slightly less polluting gas, and hope the corporates are right- 'it ain't that bad,' or move to Solar and ignore how you can poison acres by processing the raw material.

Realistically, in a Pokeworld, they wouldn't have gone through a coal phase for that long. Once they had semi-effective conductors they'd have strapped a dozen Morpekos to a hamster wheel and watch them go. Why would it be more cost effective to spend capital digging up coal and oil when you can walk into the grass and grab a walking power supply? Not to mention, Coal the Pokemon literally exists.

The idea seemed to be to recreate the Darkest Day, but in a controlled and contained environment where the energy generated could be collected and stored. He had Eternatus stuffed inside a generator and was feeding it Wishing Stones (pieces of itself that it lost ages ago) nonstop with the hope that, once Eternatus had been restored to full power, his Darkest Day scenario would be contained in that chamber, where the energy could be safely collected and used to power Galar. Leon's whole purpose was to be there if things got out of hand and Eternatus broke loose the moment he tossed in the last few stones Bede had collected for him, because the energy levels were already apparently fluctuating dangerously (hence the Dynamaxing Pokemon and dens appearing all over the place with more frequency near the end). Why he couldn't wait to feed the last batch of stones to Eternatus is beyond me, but the urgency to get Leon - the dude considered to be the most powerful guy in Galar until you come along - is understandable: if he's going to fully restore Eternatus RIGHT NOW, then he needs Leon there RIGHT NOW in case the surge of energy turns out to be too big. Which is exactly what happens, and Eternatus escapes and goes berserk.
It was a totally stupid idea that was doomed to fail from the start, but the urgency is a bit understandable when you realize that, once the process had been started, the energy was spiking and there was no real way to shut it down or pause it; it was apparent the thing was going to go boom very soon the moment they started noticing the Dynamax Pokemon appearing everywhere, so at that point, the clock was already ticking.

Interesting context, but is this referenced anywhere in the game? Not everything has to be stated explicitly in every story, and some things can be left up to interpretation, but I feel this is too critical a detail to be left ambiguous and many people seem to have come away with the interpretation that Rose's sudden urgency was unexplained and nonsensical.

It feels a little bit like you are trying to do the writers job for them with this explanation, but if this is elaborated on somewhere in the game I will concede that is a little more understandable.

We know they were feeding the stones Bede had collected to Eternatus because we find a few in the generator room where we battle Rose; we also see that Eternatus wasn't 'released', the whole damn machine it was being held in had exploded from the inside out, meaning this clearly wasn't a part of the plan.
We get reports of the Dynamax Energy starting to go haywire as we progress along the Gym Circuit, with reports of Dynamax Dens (literal geysers of Dynamic energy erupting from the ground) and wild Dynamaxed Pokemon getting more frequent and people starting to get nervous, with Leon himself stepping in to clean things up, particularly around the time we get the Dark Badge. It's pretty obvious at that point that the energy is surging and this isn't an expected part of the plan, and it's also pretty obvious what Leon's role is supposed to be - he's the guy who's supposed to be keeping things contained and to quell any public panic that may arise from the situation.
Given that the energy surges around the region and the exploding generator clearly weren't the intended effect and Leon was clearly the backup plan for if things went horribly wrong, I think it's obvious Eternatus was never intended to be directly unleashed upon Galar like it was - Rose wanted to recreate the Darkest Day, sure, but he wouldn't have bothered with the very expensive fish tank he was keeping it in if the intent had been to let it roam free and have Leon actually fight it later; he wanted to keep a storm in a bottle, but he wasn't aware until things had already reached a point where the explosion had become imminent that the containment unit wasn't going to hold, hence why he was begging Leon for help the night before the Championship battle - this thing was escaping no matter what they wanted at that point, and he knew it.

Given that things were now beyond anyone's control, all Rose could do at that point was to publicly own it. Which is why he got on camera and announced it: "Yeah, I was recreating the Darkest Day in my basement, but I was TRYING to save everyone by generating infinite energy. Looks like the genie's out of the lamp now, so this is all going down whether we like it or not. Sorry."
As for why he didn't bother calling off the Championship match:Eternatus escapes from under Hammerlocke near the center of the region, but the Championship battle is in Wyndon up north; given what a big deal the Championship is to the people of Galar, it's safe to assume the greater part of the country's population has gone up north to see the fight in person. Letting people go to Wyndon of their own free will under the pretense that they're just seeing a match is basically letting Rose evacuate the predicted danger zone without instilling a panic. Was it the best course of action? Probably not, but at that point he was just working with what was available at the time to get people away while recalling Leon to hopefully fix things (and publicly putting Leon in a position where he couldn't refuse). Was any part of Rose's overall plan smart? Not in the slightest, hand he's perfectly aware that he royally fucked up, which is why he offers little resistance when we show up (just a rather easy fight to see if we're up to the task of helping Leon contain the situation), then willingly resigns when it's all over.
It was a stupid plot, but not all that mysterious when you realize Eternatus was never supposed to leave Hammerlocke.
