Nobody cares about this. Either create an interesting plot or don't create one at all. Hopefully Game Freak learns something from the Gen V remakes.

Game Freak doesn't need to learn that, they're doing a good job as is.
Gen V was the only gen that executed well on plot. Gen VI left stuff to be desired but was okay as well. Everything after is irredeemable yet gives us MORE cutscenes, linearity, and plot focus.

That seems to be the trend in the Ohmori games. A heaping pile of horeshit until the climatic ending. You can't say that's better written than Unova's story from beginning to end without being disingenuous or just not having played the games.

The theme of the Ohmori games is people living alongside Pokemon. It's most obvious in SM, where the entire game was about Alolan culture and how it was shaped by Pokemon.

They still battle with Pokémon, they randomly steal a fossil because reasons, N's arc is about how you were right all along because Ghetsis just manipulated him from the very start, and Ghetsis is an unapologetically evil character who doesn't even believe in what he supposedly fights for.

Team Plasma was set up as this interesting team at the very start, only to become the most (ironically) black and white villains in the entire franchise. At least Team Rocket was just a mafia, which is believable. Ghetsis just wanted total world domination because LE GREED.

Guess you could say that about gen 6 too but that's more of an issue of an army of characters desperately needing to shut the fuck up.

The Team Star story is definitely awful, but I'd take the Titan/Arven's story over BW's any day. BW's overarching story is pretty bad even if I liked a few things like Bianca's character progression.

Hoenn was the point where they became increasingly focused on plot.
RBY are the last bastion of an era where story was kept to a minimum and it was the gameplay that carried a game (a few exceptions like Chrono Trigger) GSC sort of continued on that, though by 1999 story was becoming more prevelant in games.

BW put character dramas at the forefront of Pokemon for the first time, and Unova’s cast ended up being decently popular.

XY didn’t have the best characters, everyone outside of Looker and Emma felt underexplored. All of those people who liked Gen 5 start to complain.

So then SM comes out, the game is heavily focused on the characters and family relations. Since then, it feels like Ohmori is really exploring his own personal feeling about family dilemmas. SM has the domestic abuse narrative, SwSh has Hop’s inferiority complex with his brother, and SV was inspired by his own parents passing. Despite all of his directed games being controversial or even downright broken, the characters have turned out to have success. Ohmori even has ‘dreams’ about them apparently. Where does he go from a disaster like SV? Will he lead another project? Who knows…

The game is 15 hours of Cheren and Bianca repeating the exact same two lines to you about “muh strength/muh doubt” across every single town and route just so N can say “wait… we should celebrate our differences :)” in the last two minutes of the game like a Captain Planet special.

N's Castle was pretty epic, but not for the plot. In fact, I enjoyed it when I played Japanese White without understanding a single word. I made up the dialogue.

Area Zero was also epic, but the family drama was silly. An AI doesn't give anyone a feeling of resolution with their parent. The mystery is also forced and will just be explained away with imagination. The plot of the Entei movie was so much better.

I never liked the Lusamine climax in SM, probably because we don't play as Lillie and have no reason to be invested in her crazy mom.

Pokemon stories *should* be about living alongside Pokemon and how some people let it get into heads. PLA had a nice angle where the player was thought to be causing trouble, but it was short lived and all the Spear Pillar action very much felt like Platinum without the Distortion World.

So I'm still waiting for a core Pokemon game with a decent story. The sad part is that even Detective Pikachu is more about cuteness and humor than story.

A good ending is a million times more important than a good beginning or midgame. SwSh showed exactly that were the beginning and midgame was pretty good and then it all went to absolute fucking shit in the ending. Just completely ruined the fucking game.
SV is a step in the right direction, even if it took some steps back in other aspects. It's not perfect of course (the Team Star stuff was definitely the weakest part) but the character writing, the story about Arven and his parent and whatever the fuck is going on in Area Zero was what made the game enjoyable.

Considering that the crystals seems to grow on their own (like in the lake in Kitakami) and even eat into both organic structures (the trees in A0) and buildings, they definitely spread in some way that might be harmful. And obviously they have other strange effects that we don't quite know yet, so you might be right, yeah.
The fact that people in Kitakami DRINK the fucking water from the Crystal Lake is also really concerning. Maybe that's related to the Zombie NPCs they datamined.
