I don't really care that much about post-game.
What I really want is grindy, pseudo-endless content. You know, like the Battle Frontier.
Unfortunately, this kind of stuff doesn't have anywhere near the mass appeal required to justify putting it in the games, so I guess I'm going to have to make my own game.

People want post-game because the main game is shit. It's an incredibly barebones experience with no story worth mentioning, no side quests, and no world worth exploring. It's an RPG in the most basic, rudimentary sense possible. That was fine back when Pokemon games were on the Game Boy, and post-game served as a good way to make an otherwise simple game a bit more interesting. But nowadays, the game didn't get any better, while the post-game became nonexistent.

we need post-game to use maxed out pokemon on. climbing a multiplayer ranked ladder isn’t post-game. tera raids don’t even follow the typical rules of trainer vs trainer pokemon battles.
let me rematch important npcs at least. imagine a postgame battle with nemona where she actually goes all out with a competitive EV trained team

The problem is difficulty. The main audience for Pokemon is children, and they wouldn't have fun playing against some romhack bullshit with perfect EVs. In this regard, Pokemon games have too much depth for what they are supposed to be.
The way to solve this problem is spicing up what's already there. Give the player more story, more fun exploration, and more surprise. Take a page out of real RPGs for once. That way, the gameplay won't feel as one-note.

that’s why it’s postgame. difficulty only matters if it filters casual players from seeing the credits. we already have the optional kitakami ogre clan that have actually decent teams, see leftovers curselax
and if they already have 7 star tera raids that require max out pokemon and needs legit multiplayer strategy, i’m pretty sure the main audience for pokemon wouldn’t mind a challenge outside of 6-7 star tera raids
and there’s only so much story and exploration you can do, battles are really the only way to make basically infinitely repeatable content.

This is the big one for me. The school tournament in SV is at least better than the Gen 8 tournament but rematches with the E4 and champ should be available too. Hopefully DLC 2 fixes this.

That's what I'm saying, the difficulty as it is now is actually fine. Everything else is not. Pokemon games don't need endless content, they're not MMOs and their shelf life is pretty short. They severely lack quality, not quantity. Arceus was a step in the right direction, but it needs more, and we can only hope future gens will follow it.

I can accept less quantity if the quality is high. I'm not a smogon autist, I have only a few mons I truly care about and they're all pretty mainstream. But if the Pokemon roster is limited, then I expect an RPG on par with games like Persona and Dragon Quest, not anything lesser.
