It's still an objectmon and functionally as lazy as those who came after it, including the afterbirths intent on avoiding shitting on them because they're OG older than they are and sacrosanct, because kids today don't know old RPG enemies or tropes and just see what they're shown - a sentient pokéball and shuffling pile of shit. Can't have it both ways, can't accept the in-universe explanation of one because "it's supposed to be an RPG ref" and shit on others with in-universe explanations because "whaa, it am just an object". It's still a mimic, even of it's not "ye olde pokéballe mimicke" as it's a pokémon that's imitating a man-made object in some fashion (bar the ice-cream, which was the in-universe inspiration for ice-cream cones).
