Why is Pokémon not improving?

We all know Pokémon is not great, GameFreak can't code for the life of them, Masuda had straight up a dark triad personality, and everything released after X/Y has been a disaster.

But why is the franchise NOT getting better? Every single thing that GameFreak releases is somehow getting worse. This DLC was a 3/10 (reducing the Nintendo bonus).

You answered your own question anon.

Something of value this gen is there is actually a semi decent story. An amazing story compared to the other gens.

But it's because gamefreak themselves are shit at their job. No amount of polish time will fix that. They need to expand and have tpc absorb over studios to handle more spinoff games. Make 2-3 different studios actively working on titles at the same time. Retire gamefreak as purely the art direction. Let everyone else handle the main games.

In order to be "as bad" the game should also be as ambitious. It's a much more simpler game, but proportionally to the ambition they had, it's even more broken. And Cyberpunk has mostly been fixed, while Pokémon hasn't. In fact the next game is probably going to be even worse.

Dude, when the big reveal to the town happens at the end and there's like 7 people about, it ruins the story. It's like here's something that's been affecting the island for generations and what a commotion it'll cause. To all 5 residents and some exchange students.

Older games did the "crowded" city better. They knew how bad things were with S/V, I don't know why they didn't tweak the DLC to avoid it looking so obvious.

Seriously, why put the buildings there if you can't go in to so many of them. It's so soulless.

Everything feels dead. There aren't enough NPCs roaming about, the Pokemon are tiny, the environments are boring and empty. It's possibly the worst piece of Pokemon media I've ever played and I don't understand why more people aren't upset about it.

Tiny pokemon are so annoying, when you're in full sprint and you run into a thing smaller than a blade of grass.

Hell the riding mechanic itself is a piece of shit. If you're going to copy genshim/botw style open world with the gliders and all. The trainer should be the one doing the climbing and jumping.
I hate that I have to get on my lizard, jump over a fense get off my lizard keep running.

The lizard is one of my biggest complaints.
When you get climbing, the open world may not exist. You just point in a direction and fucking go.

There's no exploring it's. Climb over this mountain in the way and keep climbing over shitty geometry till you reach the point you want to be.

Bad sales wouldn't be reflected in the initial bad launch. Sword/Shield weren't that controversial.
Everyone thought they'd fix the issues with Scarlet/Violet with performance patches.

You're 100% right and playing the DLC after a long absence really made it obvious.

A brand new map and yet you just run straight to it. There's no point in not dashing or flying in a striaght line to whatever you want. A mountain is hardly even an obstacle.

The Zelda switch games rewarded you for working around stamina, steep slopes etc to get where you want, but Koraidon just ignores obstacles and there's nothing to gain by exploring off the path.

I think it's because the dlc is available pre game completion? So it's weird that you would bring along these people who have their own missions to accomplish. But even then it's still weak. I found the family drama much more interesting this time because I could do it at my own pace and didn't feel like I was being dragged along by some blond cunt and a fatass.

Though the past 3 gens we have had some combo of flat antisocial girl that comes out her shell, brown rival and the third guy.
I just worry that if they try to hard with the destined partner shit, then you will end up with a Fossilfighters/monsterhunterstories where you have to keep a mandatory team slot open for this thing you can't get rid of and HAVE to love. Because there is no way that they would make it complex enough for multiple pokemon to be your partner.

What sort of defense is that
It's DLC released well after the game launched so people will have finished teams
Gamefreak could have implemented level scaling or at least a few different sets of levels for the Pokemon
The game has next to zero content for building up a new team beyond trainers scattered about. There's no gyms, there's not multiple towns. It's just one big map with nothing interesting on it so why wouldn't people reuse Pokemon instead of grinding up a team in the wild?

I remember when I was little and I first got Pokémon Stadium and it was the biggest disappointment imaginable. I was so pumped and ready for them to go balls-to-the-wall with the whole Pokémon adventure and instead they just translated the least interesting part of Pokémon (the turn-based battles) to N64-quality 3D.

The Legends stuff is where they *should've* been going 30 years ago. It's far too little, too late now. And Japanese developers just can't handle big concepts or push the envelope in any way.

Pokémon is an amazing concept kept chained by lazy, stagnant developers and sclerotic fans. That won't ever change until a Western developer gets the license.

Because children and retarded consoomers (see: children) will still buy it. There is literally no incentive for GF/TPC to improve these games anymore. SwSh showed them that their audience are either children or adults with more money than self-respect, people who will get the games regardless of quality. Ever since the games moved to console, they have increased in price by twice $20, began cutting pokemon from the dex and selling it back as $30 DLC, have had the visual fidelity of PS2 games, been buggy as shit, and have done nothing to move the games forward, all while still setting sales records with every release. There is no reason for them to give a shit anymore. Blame the retarded consumers.

Nah you don't get to play that card. Pokemon is among the highest grossing media franchise in the entire world and has been for decades. If it still has a small dev team behind it, that's something they decided to do so they could minimize dev costs and maximize profit. They EASILY have the funds to invest more time and manpower into their gamed but refuse. You don't get excuse these goons for trying to make a AAA game with 10 people when they could easily afford 100's but refuse because money.

That doesn't matter. Pokemon's strength is it's consistency. The next Animal Crossing wont sell 40+ million copies because it only reach that level due to the stars aligning perfectly.
But Gen 10 will sell at minimum 20 million copies, which is a huge profit considering Nintendo has stated on record BotW only needed 2 million copies sold worldwide to break even, and BotW is one of the most expensive games they published.

It's because like the Isle of Armour, Kitakami is meant to be experienced prior to beating the game, for some dumbass reason. It's a stupid decision, but that's how Game Freak designed it. So Penny, Arven, and Nemona can't accompany you as it would cause inconsistent writing (well, more than there already is).

Part 2, like the Crown Tundra will be more of a "postgame" additional content, despite something like the Crown Tundra being accessible before even the 1st gym. Plus, we "need" our Generational Legendary Hunt to catch all the faggots that shouldn't come back that flood the Meta into a boring mess until the next Gen comes out.

I think I'm done with Pokemon (not including spinoffs with this statement) if Gen 10 doesn't make substantial differences and improvements to make it feel like an RPG again instead of a limited and halfbaked choose-your-own-adventure.

Not locking the DLC behind finishing the main game is fair enough but not designing it so it's fun without having to dump your entire team from the main game is dumb. So many ways they could have addressed it.

True. A good developer would have been able to design it well both ways, but I should stop expecting Game Freak to ever become a good devs. They put a teeny bit more effort into the postgame feeling if SVs Part 1 over SwSh's Part 1. At this rate, maybe Gen 20 will finally have a good Part 1 DLC enjoyable from both aspects.

Training Pokemon is a core gameplay mechanic, not an added challenge. Training Kubfu 20/60 levels is also not a challenge, it's a chore you can avoid with candies. It's also highly unfair and incredibly disingenuous to compare IoA+CT together against the Teal Mask: IoA may run better, but thats all it has. Teal Mask's story is better done, more involving of the player, and a more natural extension of the base game than IoA was to base SwSh.

For context, this is the same reviewer who did base SV, which she gave a 6 (picrel). I don't think Teal Mask is the greatest thing ever done, but I feel it deserves a 6 as well.

They're not given enough time between releases and the requirements for 3D games are simply larger.

Tears of the Kingdom got an extra year just for polishing. Could you imagine they delayed a Pokemon game just for polishing? There's definitely some devs in there seriously upset about how shit S/V runs and they never got the time to do anything about it.

Game Freak has the rights to 1/3rd of the entire Pokemon IP (that also includes 1/3rd ownership of The Pokemon Company), and many companies such as Bandai Namco and Platinumgames have stated Nintendo to be one of the least restricting developers they have ever worked with.

The only people who aren't giving Game Freake enough time to develop games are Game Freak themselves. They're not forced in anyway to continue to push out products. If TPC is really hurting for money because a Pokemon Gen came out within a 4 year cicle instead of a 3 year, they could just sell some more Pikachu, Charizard, and Gengar merch with cowboy hats and they'll still sell by the literal boatloads.
