I JUST realized Kabutops is supposed to be prehistoric Scyther after seeing the shiny a few minutes ago in 2023 (nearly 2024).

Gen 1 not having shinies is irrelevant - Kabutops is supposed to be prehistoric Scyther in Gen 1, and the shiny being green in Gen 2 is for people that missed that to point it out even further.

no, but heracross was 100% meant to be pinsir's metal coat evolution to match scizor.

now the scyther/pinsir rivalry is completely forgotten, scyther gets kleavor and pinsir/heracross became a duo.

same shit happened with bellsprout & oddish when they dropped bellsprouts new evo completely despite keeping the sprout tower.

cladistically speaking, both kabutops and scyther descend from a common ancestor, but they are not directly related to each other
they are both arthropods, but from completely different branches, with kabuto being a trilobite (which have no extant descendants nowadays), while scyther a praying mantis (insects)
their superficial similarities actually stem from convergent evolution rather than a close genetic relationship
