>>54544527Did it really bite them in the ass that hard though? Yes, the games sold the least out of any initial versions, but as seen
>>54543208here, it's not some insane decrease. Especially as DP is an outlier in the Gen 3-7 era.
Like sure, it could easily be a knee-jerk overreaction to that decrease, but it's hard to say that for certain.
It is interesting how relatively stagnant the series remained all the way until the lockdown + being on the Switch propelled the series to a whole different level.
>>54544553The unusually high levels is something they didn't think through. The idea was obviously to have this roster that's super tailored for the progression of the games. Whenever you find a new Pokemon, it'll be a Gym or two for it to evolve. That's fine on paper, but this means your new additions will still have NFE stats for several Gyms, and then the whole thing shits the bed by the end, where you don't get the evolutions before Victory Road. I guess the idea was that the post-game is part of the experience, but it doesn't feel good.
GF also refuses to change evolution requirements unless absolutely necessary (Fucking Milotic) which continues to shoot the late-game Unovamons in the foot to this day.
It's a bit disingenuous to say half the Dex are Kanto analogs. Every Generation recycles similar ideas, that's kind of a given, and while there definitely are plenty of Pokemon made with this in mind, it's not even really about Pokemon designs.
What you listed are some more valid comparisons though.
But like, you have people trying to draw comparisons between Gengar and Chandelure. There's nothing connecting those outside of being a three-line Ghost. That's just reaching for complaints about the topic.
Disliking these Pokemon just on their own merits is fine, really.
