A real Mandela effect is it being spelled "Onix" and not "Onyx". It was always spelled as Onyx until recently.

Anyway, I can see why you would not remember Hitmonlee having arms. It is very likely a a very common false memory for quite a few reasons. For one Hitmonlee is known for its legs. They are almost always emphasized in its sprites and official art. Secondly Hitmonlee lacks a mouth and even a head separate from its torso, making it easy to assume it is lacking other common body parts. Lastly the whole 'neckless armless blob creature with long legs' is a common monster body shape. You could easily be confusing Hitmonlee with something like the Fresno Nightcrawlers, Gondola, or the Mc Donalds Frykids.

Worst one for me was funnily, from the Hitmon family. There's two specific guidebooks that say that Hitmonlee evolves into Hitmonchan, and that by gen 2, you need to evolve Tyrogue into Hitmonlee, and then it will evolve into either Hitmontop or Hitmonchan.
Actually fucked with my brain all the way to gen 6, thanks shitty guidebooks from the mid 2000s

Gold and silver are not game boy *color* games, they're printed on the same GB cart shared with r/g/b/y, meaning you can play them on an original brick game boy. Imo they should be seen as a "gen 1.5" or "gen1:deluxe edition" in a sense

Never played RBY and never had a game where the Hitmons were in the regional dex. Just had to take the guide's word.
Once XY came out, and I got wonder traded a Tyrogue and it evolved into a Hitmontop, i was so confused I had to look it up and then I learned.

Crystal doesn't have that little notch in the top of the cart though so it can't be played on an original Gameboy. I tricked my sister with that by saying she could play my Crystal on the original Gameboy and I'd play something else on the GBC :^)
