But they did add the plate later, and there was no restriction on plates unlike Terapagos' body. Unless he is hiding some space somewhere for a new type, we have every part of his shell, which has all the present types.

If we ever get new types in the future, they'll be "special cases" reserved only for very few pokémon. Just an add-on, a special snowflake type above all others. Not too dissimilar in concept to the 19th Tera type we're getting this gen.

We won't "regular" new types like Steel, Dark and Fairy ever again. Unless they hard reboot the franchise of course, but I doubt that'll ever happen as well

this. it's a tera form, so it has no reason to show up again until a gen 9 remake in 20 years. the base form can still appear in later games

if GF wants to add a new type they'll just do it and figure out the rest last minute, however I really don't think they're interested in adding more. I'd rather them rebalance the type chart at this point, they seem more open to retroactive changes

It’s not exclusive to Terapagos though. Pokémon showed it off as some mysterious “19th Tera Type”, and show it off on Baxcalibur.
My guess is Terapagos will look small out of battle, the way we see it in the trailers while in battle, and if it Terastallizes it’ll look like the drawing in the book. Maybe that transformation is locked to an item, and giving this item to other mons gives them the 19th Tera Type.

I’m also t entirely certain all that will happen is all moves gain the regular Tera STAB bonus you’d get if you didn’t tera into your main type, or either of your dual typings.

It doesn’t seemingly effect whether a move is less effective, neutral, or super effective; it just seems to give a border to all moves, unlike the normal Tera Type border which not shows it’s effect on your singular Tera typing.

Given how closely this mon is tied to Tera, I don't think we'll ever really see it again unless they also bring back the Tera gimmick

Bug and ice have been shit for too long and even with the buffs poison is still mediocre at best.

That would make a lot more sense than battling with the little baby tortoise. I can see GF doing another "battle-exclusive form" like Xerneas, as well as the aforementioned Ultra Necrozma and Crowned Hero Duo.
That has some interesting implications for Terapagos itself.
>outside of battle (Picnicking, status screen, Let's Go/Following) = small Terapagos
>in battle = Terapagos as depicted in its official artwork and on the cover art of TID
>SV Tera Form = this thing in pic related, along with the special "Tera Crown" and a unique appearance
Terapagos might even receive a new Ability, and a boosted BST at that.
