>>54557720They decided to make "generations" into repetitive rehashes with gimmicks instead of continuing the world from gens 1 & 2, so now the series is both sanitized and loses more of its identity with each release. its become like NSMB or TV filler episodes.
Gens 3 & 5 are looked at fondly in compared to what came after but cracks started showing in those specific gens because they soft rebooted every form of pokemon media.
3 onward gave us disconnected regions of japan mostly unrelated to previous games and 5 onward severed things even further by going international. Returning mons and characters are just nostalgia shilling instead of naturally unfolding worldbuilding.
