They simply never match and it breaks immersion. Artstyle changes would be less of a problem if they stuck to new species.

I agree for slightly different reasons. It's why I don't understand /vp/'s hatred of Kanto or "Kanto pandering". For all Gen II's faults (of which there are too many to list), it was Gen III that introduced this stupid concept of generations. We don't need another fucking Zubat/Pidgey/Weedle analogue for every single new release. New Pokémon should be introduced for their own sake and the energy saved could be spent on expanding the games in other places. This was the one thing Gen II got right even if the implementation was god awful.

all those look like the same species instead of each changing between realistic, toriyama, and calarts and lacking consistent themes or typings. also pokemon is a game so theres no reason to repeat niches.
representing breeds of dogs or horses would work best as regional pallet/model swaps based on the original design of the species. maybe forms, as long as theres some connection and they actually look believably related between designs.

so you like kanto mons as the normal encounters and johto mons as hard to find additions but you don't like johto mons being hard to find and want them to be encountered normally like in every other gen, got it.

Except if Gen2 had been a reboot like what Gen3 did, the things peole hate about Gen2 (of which there are too many to list) wouldn’t exist, Game Freak would value Johto instead of treating it like KANTOOOOO’s doorstep and Gen2 starters would be allowed to get nice things like megas.

How many do you estimate are copies that should be cut, and what would they be replaced with? Eventually they'd run out of meaningfully different species.

I don't 100% disagree though, getting the same type of creatures on the same routes every game gets old.
