So it turns out that the expected DLC pack release of Scarlet and Violet will NOT be coming with the Indigo Disk on the cart, it will have to be downloaded separately, meaning that when the Switch eshop eventually shuts down, this DLC will not longer be able to be legitimately obtained and will effectively become lost media to those that refuse to emulate.
I assume this means that gen 10 will be even MORE

But more importantly, Nintendo hates game preservation because they want absolute control over their IP. Like Disney, they adore the artificial scarcity of not rereleasing a game more than once a decade.

Yeah, Nintendo is doing the same shit with the "complete" Mario Kart 8 release; the last DLC pack will be a download. I'm assuming this is a case of Nintendo being greedy and rushing these out for the holidays instead of waiting until everything is done so we can get proper complete editions. It's disheartening how few people in the industry seem to actually give a shit about game preservation.

Goes to show how much they care about the games. By the time the eshop shuts down they don't want anyone to care about ancient gen 9, they want you to buy the latest product on the Switch 2, which incidentally will probably be a gen 6 remake or something stupid like that.

Anon, the game they were "caught" distributing was SMB1. That's it. One single game.
From the gigaleak we know that they have preserved so many different versions of SMB1 that it's laughable to say that they aren't good at it because one mook probably forgot to change the rom after testing the emulator.

You can choose to only buy the definitive version. Despite that, a modern game plus the DLC costs more than buying 2 games back when they were doing rereleases.

OP here, I haven't played XY or SM/USUM yet (though I'm working on it, doing Black 2 right now) so I wouldn't exactly know.
I did have fun with Scarlet. But it is by far the buggiest game of the series I have played.
Its still loads better than a lot of other similar games I have played, I did not like Monster Rancher at all for one. I suspect the meme about most of /vp/ posters never playing any other games is largely true though, so no wonder people hate the game so much with how technically bad, and how barren the open overworld is (the bad writing is par for the course in a pokemon game though.)
Point being, it being the worst game in the series (assuming that's true and /vp/ is wrong about X/Y being the worst) does not make it the worst game of its genre at all. And its because of this that Gamefreak should be doing better. Its not a game so shit I would want to go refund it instantly, and I have played plenty of those (steam has a TON of games like that, so does the Switch eshop).

Also dismissing shit like this "because game bad" sets a horrible precedent. Remember where that lead the Diablo franchise, anon?

Off the top of my head probably gen 1. Kind of hard to have a competitive generation when there is nothing explicitly for that built into the game yet, even gen 2 had battle facilities and held items and new typings and gimmick movesets.

Gen 10 is guaranteed to cost $70+ with DLC probably going to be $50
And it's gonna be the same shit as Gen 8 and 9. A barebones adventure with embarrassing production value, a PArt 1 DLC that barely does anything, and Part 2 DLC that vomits the rest of the missing legendaries at you (this includes special Pokemon like Ultra Beasts and whatnot).

PIRATE, not EMULATE. Piracy doesn't have to be emulation and emulation doesn't have to be piracy (maybe, because the DMCA is fucking retarded and just about anything can fall under the 'breaking protection mechanisms' part). If you're able to download the game and patches to emulate the it, you're already able to download them and play them on a Switch.

They've said this same shit about most media formats when they first came out.
Nobody on this board remembers a time when CD-ROMs were claimed to last forever, for instance.
Also, m-discs have been around for a decade or so and I think are designed to last a thousand years? which is pretty good.
