How did the grass starters go from the unpopular choice to the best overall designs? Only Rillaboom looks bad.

In general starters have gotten worse over time. But had some serious winners in newer games like Sceptile, Torterra, Serperior, and Decidueye.

Yes, trashnime manipulates people. For example, something that a pokemon has in its pokedex can be perfectly explored in the anime, and not in the games, and this makes people like a species more.

Funny enough, same exact thing with Decidueye. Incineroar seems to be pushed a bit more, despite not being as popular if I’m not mistaken.

That's because of baracat being made a prime VGCmon, both the cat and owl were pushed (Decidueye even got a regional form), but the owl just can't beat Aslowla stats on top of grass being ass a typing.

Meow has better function due to being popular all around, and the other starters being either way too complicated (skeledirge) or unpopular (quaquaval), and having some middle road use in early VGC

Torterra is a fat ugly bastard only liked by contrarians on the internet. Chesnaught is the worst gen6 starter by a large margin. Maganium, Rillaboom and Grovile are all pretty mid.
Other than that, grass usually isn't an interesting choice, because it's not uncommon to find other grass types early on.

Gen 8 was the first gen I went with grass cause I thought rillaboom looked the coolest out of the 3. I’d like him more and he’d be a mainstay on my team if he didn’t have the drumsticks. The drum could stay. Personally, I’d have preferred it be a bamboo bo staff or something
