Doubt it, i think they just ran out of time (as always) and half assed the story thinking people wouldn't mind, but then got a lot of criticism for it. SV felt like they actually wrote the story well before they entered crunch to "finish" the game

I feel like the school was supposed to be more important to the plot initially. There being fleshed out classes with unique teachers, tests you can pass or fail, and the dorm room (that screams please customize me) as well as a admittedly shallow affection system makes it seem like you’re meant to spend a lot more time there. GF needs to bring back the spin offs as a way to tide players over so the games team has time to realize their concepts.

Pokemon Cafe Mix is on the Switch lmao. I was think more the traditional spin offs like Mystery Dungeon or a new Stadium game. I’m sure plenty would love to see a Coliseum style game too (it doesn’t have to be edgy, just focussed on double battles and unorthodox options).

It's not like Pokémon gameplay is revolutionary, it's been roughly the same for 25 years so I'd rather experience a unique story

Yeah but the story was always sorta just something I got out of the way to mess around with all the side content that hasnt existed for 10 years. So I guess from a "the series is only going to focus on completing the story and then you stop playing" perspective of all the recent games, its technically a net positive.

I think Masuda was right about the decision to stream line the games to a degree if most players aren't interacting with most of the content of each new release, the plain issue being that it really hasn't resulted in improvements elsewhere in the games. It's been said before, but the dex cut would not have been as controversial as it was if the animations of each included mon was on par with the Stadium or Battle Revolution, but with the updated HD models. But the plain reality is that the game content that has remained hasn't consistently improved despite cuts and simplified side content. Honestly what SV did with it's story/main campaign is praise worthy, but largely cause the bar is so low in the first place. Nemona and Carmine sure are cute though and that's a shoot brother.

Back in my day sequels were just better, had more content, were a more realized simulation of what the previous game was going for. The 3D graphics were an excuse for XY but nowadays there's no reason for the continuous decrease In game content other than rushing out as many games as they can as fast as possible. It's just lose lose there's been no true gain for all the sacrifices we've had to keep making.
You see more and more fans begging for a return to fucking sprite graphics like that would go over well in hopes of even being able to get the same amount of content we used to get, but I know that even if they did go that route they'd still put fuckall in the games
