Incense becoming a requirement for obtaining them via breeding meant they had to make a new pointless item to fulfill their hyper continuity autism. Thankfully, this has been retconned recently so they should return eventually later in Gen 9 or Gen 10. Who am I kidding? They're more likely to remove breeding entirely by then.

Which one is these is guaranteed to be more popular with general audiences? And keep in mind the current state of th franchise: Game freak constantly shilling PvP, fans being more focus on power scaling than ever before, and nearly 3 decades of powercreeping rendering even former competitor stables obsolete.

Besides Munchlax (probably one of the most popular babymon) and Togepi (anime), did anyone really care about them? Riolu was probably popular with furries, and the only other one that I care about is Cleffa.

Pokemon like Tyrogue, Elekid, and Magby seem like a good idea to me, as long as they are found early in the game. This way you can get a useful pokemon for half of your adventure, but without breaking the game like you would with a pseudo-legendary.

Things like pichu, iggly or cleffa seem like the real problem to me, Pokemon that were not necessary for their evolutionary lines do not contribute anything and only take up space

Mix of them having to come up with stupid excuses for them to suddenly be bred and people not really being all that excited about weaker Pokémon. I personally liked some of them for fleshing out evolution lines, but a lot aren't going to care about that. If we got more Baby Pokémon for previous lines, it would likely either be a couple a gen like in RSE or a big batch at once. No inbetween.

Clefable, and probably Raichu, don't need an evolution, but Wigglytuff sure did and now it's locked out of one forever. Even a Mega can't fix it, as it can't affect HP where most of the BST is, so you can't see that much Beedrill like minmaxing.

For one, everyone wanted regional variants and they tend to be more creative than most babies without actually affecting the mon negatively. Babies prevent third evos for lines that needed them.
Two, regional variants don't actually take up a place in the dex Alolan Ninetales is still #38 like the regular one.
Three, babies literally don't need to exist. It's rare that they're used to introduce a mon early in the game and even in their introductory gen they were just filler to show off breeding.
