N becomes Champion just as you arrive, similar in spirit to RBY but unlike Blue he’s an active threat to everyone.
The “Champion Battle” has been hijacked by the villains, and N has his own throne room (which was shown in the game’s intro footage).
He summons his dragon, you get one to match his power level so the fight doesn’t feel unfair.
The whole thing was set up and executed pretty nicely. Paced well, scored well, staged well. I think it’s the best ending to a game still.
