The Singles player in me is screaming but the rest of me is kinda happy, just shows that the meta (at least early on) is freeing up a bit after 70% Flutter and 40% every other big staple

Keep in mind that this is only Day 1, and usage and fluctuate pretty hard between Day 1 and 2 because the player pool often goes from over 100 players to less than 40.
Though you're still right in that this is the least it's been used Day 1 since it's been mad legal (iirc).

You're not wrong about its strengths in doubles, but Landorus is 4x weak to Ice Punch, and its usage is much lesser than that of Great Tusk, who doesn't take nearly enough from Ice Punch to make Iron Hands feel viable vs him. Great Tusk is absolutely Iron Hand's limiting factor in OU.

Final Gambit seems like it'd be a good move as a more reliable Perish Song-esque play if mons with bigger HP stats got it. Other wise it seems like almost deadweight on a Staraptor.

It'll be interesting to see how Incineroar being legal from DLC 2 onwards shakes up the meta, I reckon it'll nip Fire Ogerpon in the bud due to Intimidate shutting down Embody Aspect and resisting both STABs

The real problem is the massive steel weakness and basically no resistances. Three Pokemon just collapse under Gholdengo's sheckles, and the other three take neutral while having little they can do back to it.

He could have done more to adjust from the first battle but didn't. So, awful matchup + not enough adjustment to the obvious problem mon in Baek's team.

Annihilape is the one I'm interested in since it has Defiant, is immune to Fake Out, has super effective Fighting STAB and enough bulk to absorb any damage and charge Rage Fist

Hell no. In SV 4 mons getting over 50% usage was at a single event and seen as an outlier, in VGC16 it was the fucking norm with several mon below them hovering in the high 40s. It was n objectively less varied format

In most previous formats nobody would bat an eye at Brambleghast but the newer metagames are the perfect storm (heh) for it to be a legitimate threat

No? The closest an acronym came to being formed was when Palafin balance was all the rage, but that lasted all of like 3 weeks before people moved on, and then the HOME meta came in and Palafin was booted out of it's own teamstyle in favor of R-Shifu

Illumise has Prankster Tail Glow shit. Gimmicky as fuck but if you pass it to Flutter it's basically GG.
It's not really a Pachirisu situation because it's not taking up a valuable niche that it had all the right tools to fill, it's largely just a gimmick that may or may not be effective

I hate these gimmicks (all of them) and I'm tired of pretending that it "makes the format interesting". It's the same damn mons every time. The dexcut didn't do shit. This shit is so insanely boring. Watching a random Twitch streamer playing Ladder is more interesting than this because at least you see some variety with crazy teams. I enjoyed that stream. Wish GF would give more powerful abilities and useful moves to decent mons or not so great mons to make them more viable. Like making a stronger move than feint that can hit through protect and distributing to some just okay mons.

VGC events used to be free to enter, closed team sheet, and, at least in the early days, were best of one. Cheese and surprises were a viable strategy. When you're paying potentially $100 to enter a best of three open team sheet tournament, you're going to play safe and meta.
