Oh, a while back my friends and I were building Gym Leader-like NatDex teams, where we were allowed one legend per team, and I had a Dark-type team:

The gymleader's design gimmick is that he's sickly, he's pale with bags under his eyes and wears a mask. When the player enters his town an NPC will tell the player he's too sick to fight right now and they'd need to do some story stuff before he feels well enough.
Type: Poison
Gym challenge: trainer has to navigate a hospital like room, moving hospital beds out of the way and turning valves to switch off gas leaks. Gymtrainers are doctors/nurses and scientists. A nurse stands next to the gymleader too but can't be fought.

Before battle
>*cough cough* Welcome, challenger. I apologize for making you wait. Illness may hold my body back, but you'll find my spirit as a trainer is indomitable. My poison types specialize in wearing their opponents down slowly, show me if you and your Pokémon can keep standing tall against them.
Player loses

I made an entire planned region years ago, could definitely use updates but I think the concepts are cool. It has a mix of monotype and dual-type gyms for variety.

First three:
> Flying, pretty basic, just an easy start with a coastal bird theme
> Grass/Bug, jungle theme, the overlap in weaknesses means it's still simple
> Water, bit of a coral reef theme

Also take my favorite TM, it has a severe drawback so be careful with it. *gives TM Overchill* Overchill is a powerful move but it decreases the user's special attack power.
