In-game competitive doesn't really support 6v6, which is where Tyranitar shines the best. He's generally a good utility/mid-game mon now that he has knock off. I'd say he's a bit better than he was in gen 8.
He's not that great in 3v3 singles, but doubles sand is alright, if not a bit stally.
If Excadrill (his biggest partner) were in the game he'd be pretty good, but you gotta rely on stuff like Lycanroc for offensive sand now. Defensive sand uses stuff like Glimmora, Garganacl, and Gastrodon.
