I like Z-Moves because they give Pokemon with unreliable moves such as Bounce or Hurricane a more reliable same-type-attack-bonus for a turn. There is valud strategy behind using them to strengthen a coverage move.

I like the unpredictability behind any Pokemon being a possible wielder of a Z-move.

yeah, it's a dumb gimmick that neuters items. At least mega evolution doesn't wiff. All gimmicks are shit though, even if I like mega forms the way it works is also shit

I like the status ones because they basically buff the early game shit moves and Conversion by giving an addition effct once per battle, the SUPER BIG WALLBREAKER ATTACK ones are kinda boring, which is a shame sine they are most of them.

I still like Z-Moves more then Megas because more mons i like can use Z-Moves compared to how many can use Mega-Evo.

Zmoves were fucking great.
The fact that they opened up weird and interesting builds (like Zconversion or Zsplash) made them superior to Dynashit.

The gimmicks in gens 7-9 are more or less the same.

Megas are easy to spot in the team preview. The limited distribution is a good thing. Charizard is the exception and is one of the most hated megas to play against as a result.

I was kinda neutral on them to begin with, but I eventually got stockholmed on them from how much I like gen 7. And as a plus, you weren't precluded from using megas too, which is by far the best gimmick

I liked Z Moves, I thought they added some interesting options for lower tier pokemon to actually be usable - plus the ones like Snatch or Evoboost that when timed right could instantly flip the momentum of a battle if they resolve favorably. I think they deserved to be carried on and expanded more - instead of doubling down on giving pokemon more 'forms' to fix powercrept mons from older gens. Forcing them to inviolate new moves instead of new mons I think would have been a better for the long run.

They were the first and at the time the only gimmick to do this though. Tera is the only one to sidestep it by not modifying anything other than the type of the mon.

Z-Moves were by far the healthiest gimmick for multiplayer. Megas were overcentralizing while Dynashit and Tera push hyper offense too much.

Unfortunately, this lead to them being used to delete what would normally be a check or counter most of the time. Heatran loved Grassium because it let him nuke most of the checks that he'd normally struggle with. It ended up making the best pokemon even better because it was much harder to check them when they have a Z crystal as a panic button. At least it required a held item, so there was a pretty large opportunity cost to it, and required planning in advance. You can't just bust out Bloom Doom on a Fire type to deal with Waters and Grounds without giving up leftovers, life orb, etc, so you're giving up something in order to have that panic button as an option. Tera is much worse about this because you can still hold an item, and you can tera anything at any time without needing to plan for it ahead of time. You can keep your lefties, lorb, choice items, or whatever, and still have that panic button on hand to deal with your checks and counters. I think needing a held item is one of the main reasons Z moves were kept in check, and I think that requiring a held item for tera would fix a lot of the issues with it.

I never used a Z-move but I didn't beat sun or play usum. I got to the ice area but I just never started the game back up.

honestly z moves made me dislike USUM just because of how overpowered it was to hold onto a zmove for as long as possible while 'threatening' to use it. it was like a weighted coin flip and even if you didnt have the right z move, it was easy to bluff it. It also made team preview match ups harder because i have no idea what the volc set is or what checks it even if i can identify it as the Z user.

I liked it more than dynamax by a longshot, mostly because while the dances were retarded I could just not use z-moves. If the opponent used a z move it was just a few seconds of retardedness, as opposed to staring at a giant retarded pikachu for several minutes, and having my eardrums blasted out.
