I'm really not sure where the hate for the chibi models really comes from. There's a lot of complaints about modern Pokemon but the sheer vile people have for the BDSP chibi's is the most baffling thing to me. Even my friends can't describe it. As for the rest, the game is literally D/P but with fairy and the type-chart change that came with it. If BDSP are bad games because of the gameplay and world, you're pretty much confirming Gen 4 was shit. I would say except HG/SS but people are finally waking up Johto is pretty lame.

I mean aside from the forced, partywide, multiplicative exp share and the mixing of Friendship and Affection stats, which affect your entire progression. That’s what ruined the game for me, I could care less about the chibi models. I think people fixate on those because it’s easily identifiable and doesn’t require much explanation

Honestly, I still think the forced EXP share is the best thing to happen to Pokemon, but I get people don't like change. I cannot go back to older games because of no EXP share. R/B/Y kind of has one that's ok though. Affection I can understand but I only understand it if you try to hard mode a kids game.

I respect that some players prefer it, I just wish for the desire to toggle it off. Same goes for keeping Affection behind an optional minigame. I think XY and SM/USUM had the right idea if they were going to implement something like that.

No. Both SwSh and SV aren't the prettiest games around, but they have far better character and Pokemon models than BDSP, especially SV, which finally added actual actual fucking textures for the Pokemon, so they don't look like they're all made out of the same Play-Doh.

Yeah I don't get why people think EXP share is some kind of mechanic included only to cater to brain dead children, not that it's actually a pretty normal thing in RPGs to give the whole party EXP (even reserve members). It's literally just a reduction in time wasted doing the worst, most boring part of the game, it's the most consumer respectful change to the formula they've ever made and it's bizarre to me people get so mad about it.

It's honestly vastly improved the game imo because now I actually use a wide variety of Pokemon since grinding new ones doesn't mean I have to stop all progress for 5 hours while I fight the same weak mons over and over. So instead of relying on a small slice of good Pokemon that everyone uses (ex: The Universal Gen 4 Team) I sometimes end up with a different team at every gym. I'm also never over leveled because I switch things out so often, so the games are actually much harder than trying to play through with a single constant team - also getting the benefits of accumulated EVs and affection.

Some people (like me) don't want to do that. I prefer the pre-omni exp share days where I would build my team up gym by gym, working up to 6 pokemon I like and take them all the way to the end. Now if I do that nothing can touch them, so I' forced to either box the pokemon I want to play with or actively avoid trainer fights as much as possible so I dont completely steamroll the story battles.
Just by making exp share a toggle would solve this problem, but they're determined not to do that.

I remember being a dumb and obstinate teen when XY came out and going "well I'M not gonna use the exp share that's lame" and then I very quickly realized that the levels were balanced around having that steady profession distributed to your whole team and said fuck it. Most of the people here haven't mentally developed past there.

I finally beat the battle frontier on emulator and ended up getting 30 more hours of playtime just from that place alone despite skipping 90% of the grind

Yes anon I'm sure you using Rock Slide on your campaignshitter Pokemon with imperfect IVs and a probably less than ideal nature so you can 1HKO some toddler level NPCs by clicking Rock Slide when you could have achieved the same thing by clicking any other move is you using it right the first time.
