They’re the only non-rock types to get meteor beam in gen 8 that aren’t associated with space, suggesting that they would have been rock like any other fossil if Cara Liss wasn’t a retard. They did this again in gen 9, where Iron Valiant is a fusion but the psychic typing is canceled out.
With that said, gen 8 was definitely too goofy overall. Very little in the way of straightforward cool pokemon, which is probably related to why Corviknight and Dragapult consistently ended up as two of the most popular mons then. At least gen 9 seems to be bringing things back somewhat, with a greater proportion of straightforward cool designs.
