This was literally the reason I got into it as well. The art itself is great, almost every card is a "full art" as in the cards aren't usually confined to a box on the card, and the textures, while not as extensive as Pokemon, have their own personality to them. The pull rates for the single packs are decent, but for booster boxes, assuming you ONLY want the textured alt arts/SECs are like 2 maybe 3 a box. If you really are a one piece fag, I suggest getting a box or two per set and just seeing all the different characters you forgot existed or the ways in which they're portrayed through the different artists. If you're familiar with Pokemon artists, AKIRA EGAWA did a whole bunch of One Piece cards and they look fucking phenomenal. I digress, otherwise, I personally just stick to singles because most of the alt arts range from like 5-50 bucks with the manga chase or leaders being the exceptions ranging from $150-$900. Traffy wasn't really featured prominently in a certain set, but he's a mainstay enough that he'll get a sprinkle of cards with every new set. Technically though I guess OP-01/Romance Dawn (aka the most expensive one) had the most amount of Law cards in the set. If you're looking for waifus, there is a healthy amount in each set. Depends on who you're looking for though. Rumor has it that the newest set announced, OP-06 will be very waifu heavy, though take that with a grain of salt before preordering a case or something.

Thanks anon, nothing particularly special. The set up I currently have has harsh light directly over the cards so I just played with the angles until I found something I liked. I'm a fucking slut for textures though so I always try to showcase it as much as I can

Awesome, thanks for the answers. I picked up a OP-01 booster box from a local shop a couple weeks back for $170, looking at prices online afterwards seems like a pretty good scoop.
It's not a first printing or anything but still cool, I think I'm just gonna hold onto it and leave it sealed. Thanks for the info, I'll look into if there are any cool ulti or perona singles I want, and then otherwise pick up a box or two of each expansion and check out the cool cards

SV kind of reignited my interested in the franchise and I went back and replayed most of the games, but it's understandable that you'd no longer care given how shit things have been. The TCG is one of the things that remained a constant interest for me, even when I dipped out of the games with Gen 6.
You won't sell right? May as well keep your stuff. I sold my collection as a teenager and the regret lingers even now. I still think about those cards all the time :/

'Worst' doesn't really mean bad though. While XY as games were mid as fuck, I have very fond memories of the entire TCG series, and Steam Siege was actually considered pretty solid when it first came out. The FA trainers were popular, and it has EX and Mega EX cards (with that interesting dual type design they did, which wasn't as cool as what Gen 3 did but was still cool) of Pokemon that are pretty popular but not Zard like Gardevoir and Steelix. I liked it then and like it now. As for what I wanted to pull, I honestly wanted at least a Steelix or M-Steelix EX, as well as either the Volcanion or Gardy secret rare, but I ended up getting 2 regular EX, 2 BREAK and 3 full art EXs, so I'm not complaining. BW/XY FA cards look gorgeous in my binder, they really don't make em like they used to.

I think the main reasons people dislike SS are as follows:

>Lack of Charizard
>Horrible pull rates (at least compared to SV), which is very true
Case in point for the lattermost point, only got 6 UR or higher out of 36 packs, which is a 1:6 ratio. Very low compared to the 1:3 ratio we get nowadays, which generally holds true.

I've recently started collecting again and I'm currently looking to buy singles that I like, but I'm having trouble with cardmarket. Is there a way to favourite cards/put them into the shopping card and then choose a seller which has more than one of them? My problem is that I'm mainly looking to buy cards in the 2-10€ range and for some shipping can be more than the cost of the card itself.

The illustrations in this set are great and the Swablu/Altaria are gonna be a big hunt.
We also don't know what's going on with full arts for the paradoxes which I would fully expect them to go all out on.

And probably about 10-15 loose packs bought at my local pokemon card store
So, 253 packs total assuming I bought 15 loose, and pic related is what I have left to collect for a full master set.

If the corners, centering, and whitening are all perfect, you could easily expect an 8 or 9. If you've ever cracked PSA8s or 9s, you'd realize they're much lower quality than you expect a 9 to be. 10s are also riddle with print lines, like that azumaril above.

At the risk of sounding derivative, I think there's something endearing, maybe even timeless about the aesthetics of old WOTC cards. Completely putting aside nostalgia, too. Just the overall layout and look, is, dare I say "sovlful". Of course in terms of material quality and varied art, modern comes out on top, but I think there's something to be said about why people continue to be drawn to these old WOTC cards when there are supposedly "better" modern cards out there.

Agreed, i think the old cards being more fragile adds to the mystique as well. The art bring contained to the window at the top are to the charm, rather than the new cards that are plasticy foil and "waow big art!"

Iono is simultaneously popular waifu and one of the best N-like cards to date so that one could definitely go up over time, especially as Paldea Evolved stops printing in a year+
Gold Arceus VStar and 223 Zard ex (the one on the right) are both very playable cards with desirable arts so they most likely will go up over time

what's the best way to get into the Pokemon TCG in 2023? Last time I played was during the DP era. I thought i was over it, didn't care when prices went insane during covid and thought i had outgrown the game. But I saw that Battle Academy set and I just wanted to pick it up and have fun. I'd be a casual player for the most part but I think It'd be fun to start playing again, things seem way more complicated than in the DP era in terms of products available and whatnot. shill me on what I need to buy to get started.

It's pretty simple. Just hop on limitlesstcg and pick out a deck. It lists the decks of all the recent high-ranking players so you can just reference or copy there's. Just buy the singles and you can make a deck for like 30-40 bucks easy (unless you want to build Zard) If you really want to buy products, something that comes with a mat like the 151 UPC or Morpeko box would be a better investment than trying to buy something for the cards. If you're REALLY insistent on building a deck off of product, the Mew battle deck and Chien Pao are probably the most playable, but still need some heavy reworking. And Mew won't be legal for too much longer.

in mid-November we're getting a miraidon ex league battle deck with a lot of valuable cards including Forest Seal Stone that runs for like $12 a piece, so including all the singles it has if you want to build Miraidon, it will be a decent investment of $30.

I think my questions is more I want to play casually, I want to get the most bang out of my purchases.
Last time I played competitive was in the DP era and I don't have it in me to do that ever again. Back in the day they had "theme decks" which fucking sucked to play with and rarely included any good cards or were fun to play.
Now I see there's tons of options now and they sell like pre-made 60 card decks that look much better than theme decks like the Pokemon TCG Go battle deck for mewtwo looks interesting but is it any fun or does it suck as much as theme decks used to suck back in the day?
If I can get a box set or package that contains a bunch of boosters even if they're rotated out or about to be rotated out for cheap I'd rather do that than get something "new". Opening packs and deck building is part of the fun for me, so that's what I'm looking for. But since I"ve also been out of the game I don't know what gift boxes etc would be best for me. I also don't want to buy somethings that might not be compatible, like some gimmick that just stuck for 4 expansions and was then forgottena bout perhaps I'd rather skip that if possible.

There are still theme decks. Those are what I was kind of mentioning in my post. And they do still more or less suck. I still think the most bang for your buck would be to just buy the singles for an actual deck, but if you really want a pre-packahed one the best ones are probably the Chien-Pao Ex Battle Deck and the upcoming Miraidon Ex League Battle Deck. There's no real gimmicks to be worried about. V cards are sort of being phased out, but everything Brilliant Stars and up will still be sticking around for a while. Anything with an E in the bottom left will likely be rotating out at some point in the first quarter of 2024.

What it really sounds like you might like though are the Build & Battle Kits. They come with a crumby pre-built light deck featuring one of four stamped holo promos and four booster packs to add to it. If you've got another person to play with there the Build & Battle Stadiums, which come with two of the aforementioned kits along with four additional booster packs and some dice and shit (I think). Those are what my buddy used to get his wife into playing. And if you want to start playing at events, it's worth noting that prerelease events use these Build & Battle kits, giving everyone a half an hour to build a deck with what they get and then giving them 3 additional booster packs at the end.

Also if you want to try playing without spending anything at all, you could always try TCGlive. It does a good job of walking you through the game in its current state and gives you a bunch of starter decks.
