The only retcon megas need is to not be the "final" if anything so Pikachu can get one. Just make it a different type of evolution, hence the name.
Making megas into permanent evolutions is a disservice to crossgen evos (which prior to PLA, Gen 6 still had the last one anyway so they aren't mutually exclusive).
