She doesn't do anything besides sit in her house and maybe give you an item. She's certainly cute, but the series has a lot of characters who don't do much beyond 'be cute, and they're often less popular than the big important Trainers because of it.

Did she even have a NAME back in gen 1? I remember fans referring to her as "May Oak" a lot back in the early days, so did the name Daisy come later?

She did not have a name in the gen 1 games. The manga adaptation of the anime included her and gave her the name "Satsuki", which got localized to "May" in the official translation. Then GF ignored the fuck out of that and named her "Nanami" in the gen 2 games, which got localized as "Daisy".
