You can shit on XY all you want for instance, but even they made it a point to not shove their new side-content and minigames down others throat. You have stuff like PokeAmi and Supertraining right from the start but either you're finding out about it by some random NPCs you're talking so that you're given an incent to give them a go or other ways of engaging with them. But it won't break the main campaign for something that might or might not be touched on until you're finished with the Post-game out of completionist reasons.
Even Swsh made it a point to ask you if you want to know more about Pokejobs.
Side minigames are fine, but don't make them take away time more than needed.
