Evolves into a satisfying stage 2 and a badass stage 3 with a badass cry.
STAB wing attack that early is very strong.
Also evolves very early, gets a really nice power spike and ability.
Gets an incredibly good move when it evolves to stage 3.
Fantastically good pokemon. Best early bird there is. Makes Infernape just a little bit worse by his very presence on route 201. Every time I play gen 4 I have to make a conscious effort not to use him if I don't want too, otherwise he'd have a spot on the team every single time.
Only downside is a relatively shallow move pool. Early wing attack is great early, but aerial ace is only debatably better, and the recoiling brave bird is all the way at 49. A common problem for birds. Close combat is fantastic, STAB return too, but there's not much else for coverage besides that. Steel wing, U-turn, and I think that's literally it.
