As a lifelong casual player but huge fan of the franchise, Gen 7 really was the last stop before the games fell down HARD. Gen 6 was already a little bit wild with what they developed, but Gen 7 was where the last few good ideas were poorly implemented.
That being said, USUM were still good games and should have just been the only versions released. The reality of crunched deadlines was way too apparent with this gen.
