>>54692934>SmashersWhy would I complain or talk about pedos? The fact that Smoggies associate with them is telling.
>Do you compete in games.Yes
>Problem with SmogonAt the end of the day Smogon rule balancing is very vague and is a popularity contest. If one or even a few people dislike a pokemon/move, they can easily convince the people to get it banned with their sway in the community (see the Volcarona ban). This is because there is no separation between player and council. Therefore struggling against a pokemon or playstyle gives you a perverse incentive to advocate for a ban.
Comparing it to Smash is disingenuous. Smash has a few clear cut rules when it comes to making a ruleset (no items, stages that aren't too large and have as little variance as possible, all characters). While there is often discourse about the specifics in the rules, the separation from the competitors and the TOs give players some, but minimal sway. Yes there are exceptions, but they are far and few in between and should be treated as such.
Am I saying that people on the Smogon councils shouldn't play competitively on Showdown. No, I'm just saying the low skill floor of pokemon creates unfortunate circumstances.
