I guess I have some shit to say on this topic
>Samurott is the one that clearly feels like an upgrade both in design and comp factor, loved it PLA more than in BW
>Decidueye and thyplosion are improvements but not by a mile like samurott, if anything h thyplosion gave its OG a better movepool
>Arcanine is great but both forms achieve different things
>Corsola is different, I must say the ghost one is good enough
>I love the slowpoke line in all of its forms, same for liligant
>Quilfish is weird, I like the type change and evolution but I have to give the edge to the original it can go either way
>Runegrigus is fine, should have been rock Ghost
>Ninetails also serves different purposes so both are fine

The rest feel like side grades rather than improvements

OK I honestly forgot about them despite loving my water Tauros, they have a cool type, a new move and decent design that doesn't differ from the OG normal, fighting or water/fire ones making them really fun to use
You are absolutely right I shouldn't have discounted them as sidegrades
